Wow!

How much fun are we having today? I didn't actually get all that much sleep last night. I swear I wake up when Lily wakes up, even if I don't hear her (cuz I'm in the other room). Either that, or the futon is too hard for me and Pedro is being mean by not letting me sleep on the pillow top mattress. I'm willing to concede it might be a combination.

BG is the only cat to hang out with Lily and I. Daphne hides herself in some corner - I find her by listening closely for cat snores. Riley finds the most comfortable place on a bed and hunkers down until the next feeding time. Well, I think BG mainly hangs out because he gets a little too friendly with some of Lily's toys. That's why I have to pack everything up at night.

No, I didn't make Lily do this. I took her Milkbone away from her and she substituted a burp cloth. But look, the cloth and her onesie match! How sad is that???? I'll bet no one thought I was going to put up so many pictures today. But we have had quite the day. Check out what happened a little while ago....!

I went to look outside to see why it was so dark (one clue - it rhymes with loud) and saw 2 deer in the front yard. I'm surprised they didn't run as Lily was yelling to herself and I was storming around trying to get to the right window. How spoiled are my deer?

And last, but not least, the crazy baby picture of the day....

Hiiiiii

Lily has a new word down. "Hi". I don't think she really knows what it means. She uses it to say Riley's name. "Hi-yee". She puts a lot of effort into saying that cat's name and he doesn't deserve it! Okay, I'm a little jealous. Today she was helping me put together the new baby gate. It feels so much better to not have to worry about Lily knocking over the old one.

Unfortunately, (for Daphne) there's no way into the living room now. Riley can make it easily and B.G. has developed a new flying leap which is entertaining to watch but poor fat old Daphne just cannot make it. I'll have to set her up in a new room. I love watching Lily on her toes!!!! She zooms along holding onto the furniture. I'm sure she'll be taking her first unaccompanied steps any day!!!

I guess that's about it. Pedro's surviving his first day of work. Oh and Lily is back to napping without any struggles. I think with all the excitement of having the Rock Star (daddy) home she didn't want to miss out on anything. Mommy is pretty boring, I guess. But boring means dependable! And ummm, safe! ha! Take that, Hi-yee.

Back

Pedro, Lily and I spent the night at grandma and grandpa's house. It was notable because Lily didn't cry when we got there. :) Lily's getting over her separation anxiety. These are some old pictures. I guess from last week. It's weird, with Pedro home the last week, or so I should have had lots of time but I feel like I haven't had any time to update Lily's blog. So sorry to those who have come by and had to look at the same old picture all this time. :) Pedro starts his new job tomorrow so hopefully we'll all be back to business as usual. :)

Oh and this is Lily using the flashlight to make a Lily scary face. :)

Wherefore Art Thou Netflix???

Netflix has been down for a while. I got a movie today but I'm not sure when I'll get the next one. It would be nice if the little message said why the website is down. argh Lily is happily playing on the floor ripping up a Time magazine. We went out again today to run some errands. So much for Pedro's week off!

I haven't been updating much because I've been so tired. I'm currently waiting for Lily to get sleepy and take a nap so I can have one too! I don't think I have too much new stuff to report. I did manage to get a new bikini for Lily. I ripped her last one. :( I mean, I wasn't trying it on, or anything!

Picnic

We all had fun yesterday. The weather was perfect. :) Lily seemed a little apprehensive when we arrived at the lake but by the time we left she was having the time of her life. It's always a little hard the next day because she expects adoring fans whichever way she turns and real life just doesn't work like that. :)

This is the only picture I took yesterday. They looked so cute together on the lawn. :) Oh, Lily did NOT like going in the water at all. Maybe the squishy clay-type bottom put her off. Lily and I went on the pontoon boat. She did pretty well for having a baby's flotation device around her neck. Anyway, I'm so tired I can't think anymore. I have almost finished Harry Potter. I'll read it again more slowly to catch all the little details. I was really shocked at all the people who were killed in this book. And animals. eep!

Potty!

Pedro put Lily on her potty just after she woke up this morning. She made her first pee pee in it! I'm all a flush with pride. Yeah, I said it!!! I put her on it yesterday just for her to get used to it. She had fun although I was a bit taken aback that her legs are long enough for her to scoot off of it. Well, I need to start getting ready to go to the picnic. Welcome back, Auntie Mary Lou and I hope you get some rest!

Harry Scary

Well, the last Harry Potter book (finally) comes out tomorrow. I'm very excited even though I might not be home half the day to read it. Oh well. Daddy has next week off so he can wrangle baby whilst I read. :) I meant to post yesterday afternoon but a bad storm came through and we were without power for a couple of hours. I have to make sure the handheld Nintendo thingie is always charged up because I thought I was going to go crazy without any entertainment.

It was a pretty crazy storm and lots of trees came down, etc. Thankfully, our property was okay. The pictures are from one of Lily's naps yesterday. I don't even know how she was sleeping like that. Her leg was lodged in between the slats pretty well. It took me a bit to get it out. Then she cried. I figured it was better to wake her up then than to have her wake up screaming from all the blood pooled in her leg. She fell asleep like that again but fortunately I caught it sooner so she didn't wake up or cry. :) You know, you can read all the books you want to on parenting but you still have to figure most of it out yourself. :)

Wow

Did you guys know that babies can cry in their sleep? Lily woke me up at 12:30 and I walked in to see her crying and daddy frustrated. Daddy left and I calmed Lily down. She fell asleep but was making crying sounds in her sleep and breathing in that hiccupy way we do after we cry. I tried tickling her and she'd flail her arms around and then go right back to the sleep crying. I couldn't sleep while she was doing this so I was awake until 2!!! Which is funny because the house down the hill got TP'd and I didn't hear a thing! Would you call the cops if you got TP'd?

9 months old!

I meant to post earlier today but Lily has worn me out. She is obviously well on her way to becoming a manic toddler. It's so funny to see the cats come back in the living room after I put Lily down for a nap. I've been taking a lot of pictures of her hoping to get one good enough to submit for that photo contest. I've got some pretty funny ones but nothing that really stands out.

She's started cruising now. She can also bend over and pick stuff up off of the floor. Hanging onto the sofa, of course. :) It's so bizarre to watch a child learn so much so fast. I tried to get her to crawl down the hall to her daddy but she refused. I had to hold her hands so she could walk most of the way down the hall. That seems pretty huge to me. She knows there's another way to get around but she can't do it alone yet.

I know there were some things I wanted to mention but I just can't think of them now. :) Oh yeah! Pedro, Lily and I are going to his old company's picnic this Saturday. I thought it would be a nice way to have some closure and a good way for them to meet Lily. They had to put up with Pedro who was putting up with me when I was pregnant. :)

This picture is hilarious, but it's the last picture that I really want to show off. Doesn't she look like the spit from her daddy's mouth? Check out all those teeth!

Finally!!!

Lily and I finally made it to the beach. I should really say that I made it to the beach as I did all the walking and pushing! I couldn't believe it - we were gone for almost an hour. We goofed around a little at the beach. I put Lily's feet in the water. She wasn't thrilled. There was no one there, it was SO peaceful. There was a school of small fish in the shallow water. I loved watching them dart around. There were plenty of bird tracks in the sand. I'll have to get Pedro to go with us once or twice during his week off. It's very warm today so we might have to try and get there earlier. :) There are bathrooms there and several picnic tables. I think it would be a nice place to hang out for a couple of hours. :)

Anyhoo, I've been taking pictures of Lily for this Yobaby contest. Dern digital cameras can be a little slow. I know the shot I want. She has this beautiful smile when she sees her daddy or I enter the room. I think I need daddy to walk in first and then I'll jump out with the camera. :)

Yo-model

I'm seriously thinking about doing this. Here's a link to a baby photo contest for Yobaby yogurt. Lily, of course, eats her Yobaby everyday. :)

I'll choose some photos and put them up here. I would appreciate some input on what picture I should submit!

Package

Finally, after months and months, I've mailed Mary Lou's package! Happy Belated Birthday! :) Lily is that an age where she gets upset at new stuff. New people, new sounds. I haven't read my baby books in a while so I'm not sure if it's normal. I'm sure it is. She's becoming more aware of her environment. Right? My point to all of this is that she started screaming at the Post Office. Wow. The sounds of the packing tape and all the new stuff was too much! I had filled out the form and had everything as ready as I could have it but of course I filled out the wrong form. Oh well, we survived and Mary Lou's package is on it's way! Yay!

Ouch!

Miss Lily kept both of her parents awake last night. Pedro said he only got about 2 hours of sleep so I kicked him into the spare bedroom and he's still sleeping. I heard Lily at 3:30 in the morning and I thought, Pedro will take care of it, so I rolled over and went back to sleep. Sweet! :) This is daddy's last week of work at his old job so I'll have to sleep with Lily more as he might be pulling some long days to finish up his work.

I took these pictures last night. I know Lily's a baby still and so she doesn't understand that this toy is not a seat. :) We actually just got back from a 2 mile walk. I tried to get to the beach near our house but I took a wrong turn. Oh well. It was still peaceful and beautiful. I think I'll take my camera next time. I live in a subdivision in a rural area but I live on the main drag so it's still a little noisy. But if you go a few blocks in it is SO quiet. I've seen deer on my walks, it's so nice. :) I try to show Lily interesting things on our walks but she has her own opinions about what's interesting. Of course. :)

Do you want to know how Lily tells me she's not interested in having her picture taken anymore????

Gor-jus!

Look at those beautiful orange eyes! I'm such a sucker for cats. :)

The 13th

I meant to update yesterday but I was worn out. Lily and I were out by ourselves for 4 hours. That's pretty good for us! One of my friends has had a rough week so I went to meet her for ice cream. :) Lily didn't like being out until she got a taste of my gelato. Lily acted a little scared of Stacy until she realized that Stacy had a bowl of gelato too! Then she started sidling up to her. :)

These pictures are from Thursday night. That's why I wanted to post yesterday. Now they're just hopelessly outdated. :) Pedro and I watched Casino Royale last night. It was better than I expected. Wow, that opening part. Not the opening credits, that part sucked. Oh, the movie's called Casino Royale let's have a card theme with the card suits bouncing all over the screen. Please. :P Anyway, the part where he was chasing the dude who moved like a greased lightening. Wow!

So, here is proof that great auntma's dog biscuit thing is a good idea. It's a good surface for Lily to chew on. It's not so hard it will crack a tooth but it doesn't crumble so she doesn't ingest it. The hardest part is keeping the cats away. They're a little hungry since their food only comes out twice a day. :)

Today Lily and I are going out for lunch to meet another friend. I've been making a real effort to get out and be social. It's something you can take for granted when you work. There's always someone to talk to. Or mostly always. Kind of sometimes. Alright, I'll stop. :) I was so tired after giving birth and kind of freaked out by my new station in life that I didn't feel I could handle going out. I'm handling things much better now so hopefully Lily and I can get out there and have some fun. :)

Yes!

Mommy got some sleep last night! I didn't fall asleep until almost midnight but I slept solidly after that. I was a little surprised when Pedro came in to wake me at 7. I was ASLEEP. It was awesome. :)

These pictures are from this morning. Lily tries to lift up her legs to practice climbing but thankfully she isn't good at it yet. :) Miss Daphne is still alive and kicking. I've started putting the cat bowls away during the day to keep the ant invasion to a minimum. Poor fat old Daphne is losing weight. As you can see she has enough energy to summon up a glare....

I'm trying to think of how to describe the picture below. Lily takes her fingers and runs them up and down over her lips to make a funny sound. I caught her doing it but of course, you can't tell from one picture. :) She's so cute. She's changing so much each day, it's just amazing. :)

The Phantom Somersault

I'm going to take a break from Lily today to focus on one of my former babies, Riley. Riley was my baby bear for a number of years. But as many other parents have probably noticed, once you have an actual baby, the pets become just pets. :)

I'm waiting for youtube to process my 2 second video. I filmed Riley doing a somersault but I only got the second half of it. He loves to do somersaults. Sometimes he chooses a spot that doesn't really work and I'll hear thuds as he crashes into walls or boxes. Yes, Riley is special like his mommy. :)

Actually, Riley has been happier lately. I've been putting up the cat food bowls because someone (Daphne) is a fat lumpy beast. The boys lost some weight after their surgery and I think Daphne has been making sure she gets most of the food as well. So, I've started giving Riley and BG wet food for lunch. Now I can't go into the kitchen without them tearing in behind me. :)

Oops. I meant to post this yesterday but it took a while to be updated by youtube. I'm not sure why, the video is all of 2 seconds long. Enjoy. :)

Teef

Oh Miss Lily. She's started chewing whole heartedly on her crib. You should be able to see the vertical gouges a couple of inches from her hand. I don't think I could do that with my teeth! What am I to do with this child??? Maybe she'd chew on those dried pork ears from the pet store. Just a thought.

Yes Lily, you're very tough. She's been wearing me out today. She stole some of my lunch. Alright, I shared but only under duress. She likes peas and mashed potatoes, apparently. She wore herself out too, judging by the picture below.

Yes, she is sleeping. I think she bends over to rest her head for a second and then passes out. I moved her onto her side. I want/need her to sleep for a while! Daddy and I are going to have to switch bedrooms. He doesn't wake up as often with Lily and she sleeps through his snoring. I find the futon more comfy. Have I already blogged about this??? I don't remember. MORE SLEEP PLEASE!!!!

News

After what seemed like an extremely long wait, Pedro has accepted a new job. Congratulations Pedro! He'll be working just off of Charlottesville's downtown mall. This is exciting as he currently drives 75 miles to work. The new job should be 17 or 18 miles, in comparison. It's going to be weird for a little while as I don't know if Pedro has ever had a job where he's only been away from home for 9 hours. Lily's had to go to bed without seeing her daddy sometimes. That's hard. She's only going to be a baby for so long.

It's going to be a little bit hard for Pedro to say goodbye though. His current boss has been really good to him and one of the best bosses (if not the best) he's ever had. In a change of subject, you can see that Lily has sort of made a truce with the cats. She has some scratches on her arm. They're not bad. She was pulling out Daphne's fur and Daphne still has HER claws. I think she was pretty gentle, considering. I cleaned up Miss Lily with peroxide and antibiotic ointment. They look fine today. She's learning to give the cats a little bit of space. :)

Miss Noodle

We went to Red Lobster today for lunch. We've gone over our seafood quota for the year. :) Lily shared our lunch. We found out that she REALLY likes noodles. And anybody who watches Sesame Street as much as I do knows about Mr. Noodle. Yay, Elmo! Lily was grabbing noodles off of daddy's plate by the end of lunch. She ate some cheese biscuits, a teeny bite of shrimp, coconut, noodles (of course) and some bumbleberry tea. whew Then she was saying hi by shrieking loudly to people at Whole Foods. I guess she had to work off the noodles. :)

Cutie Pants

I'm not certain why, but Pedro and I call Lily, Lily-pants. I said it one day, and it stuck. I took some pictures today of Miss Lily playing in the living room. She's wearing a pair of pants that Auntie Nicole gave her for Christmas. They're getting a little holy at the bottom so they're her run around inside pants now. :) For whatever reason, this picture reminds me a little bit of my mom. :)

I'm playing. What are you going to do about it? Well, that's what I imagine her saying. :)

I'm sorry B.G. There is no safe place left to hide. At least the cats keep her busy chasing them from old hiding spot to old hiding spot. :) I had to give B.G. wet cat food today because she was pestering him to the point that his tail was thrashing back and forth but he didn't swat her. He showed more patience than I would have. :)

Ooh look! Snacks! I sometimes put, I'm not sure what to call them. They're kind of cereal treats shaped like stars for babies to practice self-feeding. I put them on one of the end tables for her to feed to herself when she pulls herself up.

Firecracker!

Lily woke up this morning and was ready to go!!! Which is in direct contrast to the picture of her sleeping yesterday. :) I'm not sure how she gets into these positions, let alone sleeps in them. But anyway, back to today. She was talking to herself in her crib. Holding up her hands and chattering away. I decided that since I was feeling a false sense of energy from my coffee, that we would go for a walk. It was just a short walk but I've managed to go for 2 this week so I'm proud of myself. :) We'll try for 3 walks next week. I do need to lose weight. I can tell that I'd have more energy to take care of Lily, and hurt less, if I weighed less. I'm not much for dieting, which means I need to exercise. I'm not opposed to exercise either but it's SO hot and humid out right now. boo

Here's the wake up shot. :) It's a tough job being a baby. Daddy let me sleep in the spare room again last night. I do not know how Lily sleeps through Daddy's snoring. Pedro takes her to bed with him and sometimes I go into check on them (cuz I'm such a mommy) and he's dead asleep and snoring like a chainsaw and she's dead asleep beside him. Amazing. I would feel more rested today if a certain cat (that's right - run away Riley!) hadn't been pounding on the door early this morning. Grrrrrrr. He interrupted my dream of snuggling with George Clooney and watching potato birds. You know, I'm glad I don't drink or anything because then I might have REALLY weird dreams. Potato birds clean off the potatoes that manage to get into the tops of trees. They're slightly larger than lady bugs. What, you didn't know about this? tsk

Everything

Everything turned out pretty well yesterday. The food was great. We didn't have room for hamburgers. I guess grilled peanut chicken kabobs aren't really standard Independence Day fare but I wanted something a little lighter than hotdogs and hamburgers full of fat! This is a nice picture on the back deck. Yes, that's a forest behind my house. And a profusion of cat nip to the left of grandma. (Our left, not hers) I planted it 3 years ago and it was pretty measly. It just keeps coming back every year, bigger than the year before. I'm glad catnip likes neglect. :)

I like to call this picture "Mommy Needs to Be More Aware of Where She's Taking Pictures". In front of a laundry pile no less. Sigh. But that's a pretty typical picture of Lily when she's in full swing. It looks like she's going to make a flying leap for her daddy. Grandma and Lily had some good bonding time yesterday. :) Well, I'm sure there was more I was going to write about but Miss Lily is crying in her crib. She wants to be out and about, playing with her new toys!
