blah

Let me see, not much time but I have a lot of information to share (for those who care). Lily can sit up on her own now. I mean, she can get into a sitting position on her own. That didn't take long. I can't remember if I said it yesterday or not but she follows me down the hall now. I do put up the babygate though because the cats have ripped up carpeting and there are some exposed nails. Which is why two of them are going in to be declawed next week. It's funny how priorities change once you have a child.

Anyway, what else. Riley and Lily have kind of started playing together. Very cute. Oh and last night when Pedro went out to pluck the fallen pieces of chicken from the grill, there was a raccoon on the back deck with the same intentions. He wasn't as big as the Vancouver raccoons who grow large on the excellent offerings from garbage cans there. Apparently, he was quite saucy and walked down the back steps slowly checking back over his shoulder to see if he was being followed. Sassy thing.

I'm sure I've forgotten something. Oh well. Here's another cute picture.

Dying

Not to be melodramatic or anything. I feel so awful today. I might be getting a cold - I'm all achy. Add that to being woken up last night and I want to fall asleep and stay that way for days. But I don't have that option so I get to eat lots of cookies.

Let's see, Riley threw up on the curtains this morning. Lily is behaving herself. A few birds have discovered the bird bath. Oh, I made an awesome video of Lily last night. She was mouthing off, crawling, doing some yoga, frowning, crawling more, etc. I'm not allowed to post any videos to youtube so I took a picture from the video to show her frown. It's more impressive in the video. You see, she finally looked up and saw me filming her. You know how kids refuse to do anything on demand and I was getting great footage. So anyway, she frowned in 3 parts. It still makes me giggle to see it. :)

At least Riley is earning his kibble today. Lily keeps "chasing" him. He walks from one side of the room to the other. She follows behind with a 2 minute delay. It means I get a small break. whew

hmpf

I had another bad night last night. I had trouble falling asleep and then Lily had trouble staying asleep. Oh well, I know as soon as she hits 12 or 13 she'll be impossible to get out of bed in the mornings. :) So I only have another 11 years and 5 months of sleep deprivation. :)

And for the people who complain about the slow posting (and you know who you are) I'd like to say that no one leaves comments anymore so I feel like no one's reading the blog. I need a little incentive. It's not the hardest thing in the world but Lily takes up a lot more of my time now that she's crawling. So when I have a moment to myself, updating Lily's blog is not at the top of my list. :) So if you want more updates, leave more comments. hmpf!

I did mean to tell the story of Lily's travel down the hallway. Yesterday Pedro and I were grilling hot dogs. We left Lily on the study floor. When we came back in, Lily was halfway down the hall. I think she was looking for us. :) It was VERY cute. :) She's still not a smooth crawler but she's only been doing it a few days. And no, I did not get a picture of her in the hallway. The hotdogs were ready. Priorities people.

It's official

I don't have any pictures of it but Miss Lily is now crawling. It's hesitant and she tends to lift her arms really high but what the hey, she's still learning. :) But here's what's really important about today: Pot Roast! Here I am browning it. It was almost 5 pounds. :)

Here it is in the slow cooker. I put potatoes and red onion into cook with it. I couldn't wait until it was done. It's been agonizing me with its delicious smells all day. The end meat was starting to fall off so I've been eating that. :) It's good! I guess I'm the opposite of most people who are grilling for the holiday weekend. Oh well. :)

Oof

Well, we're trying to encourage Lily with her crawling. She can move by getting up on her knees and flopping forwards, getting up on her knees, flopping forward, etc. I love this pic. I'm not sure when I took it.

Daddy used his car keys tonight to try and get Lily to crawl. She's just not quite there, but I don't think it hurts to encourage her. :) But here's the winning photo from tonight....

I forgot to add that Pedro told me that several people came up to him in Lowe's and told him how beautiful Lily is. It didn't hurt that she had her cute pink sunhat on. :) I was outside looking at bird baths. I did get one. There are several birds that hang around the front yard and I'd like them to hang out more. :)

Aah ba ba

Well, that's what Lily says anyway. :) She talks to herself a lot now but I cannot, CANNOT, get her to talk on the phone. I try to let her daddy listen. I did, at least, snap a picture of her acting like a little sassafras recently. I understand why she stops talking when I hold the phone close to her. I never hold the phone close to her because she tries to chew on it. :)

I also took some pictures, trying to show how she can almost crawl. Of course, she never crawls TO me. Here she is acting like a little squirt. I know she's not being an exhibitionist, she's just playing with what's closest to her - her shirt. :)

It hasta be pasta

Miss Lily sort of crawled today. I had to provide the proper incentive - car keys. What is it about babies and car keys? Anyway, she didn't do any crawling after that. She did eat some of my pasta though. I was trying to eat my dinner and she plopped her hand right in my dish. I broke up the rotini into little bits so she wouldn't choke. I could hear her chewing away. :) It looks like she might be eating our meals sooner than I thought. She still slammed her last bottle of the day though. :)

It's Skink Love (Parental Discretion Advised)

It's been quite the day. Lily woke me up at 4 and didn't fall asleep until 6 this morning. argh. She's been Jekyll and Hyde all day. Right now she's happily playing. She's taken a move or two crawling but you can tell it makes her nervous. :)

Alright, I heard B.G. maniacally scratching the front door and saw him watching THIS. They were awfully, ummmm, motivated. I'm going to have baby skinks!!!! In other news, I gave Miss Lily some banana baby yogurt for her snack. I think I'm going to have to up her solid food intake.

And poor B.G. I shut the front door to give the skinks some privacy. My front porch has been the scene of some in flagrante delicto. I guess I'll have to hose it down. :) Oh and I'm watching Miss Lily launching herself across the floor. It's almost crawling. :) I just hope she tires herself out with her playing so she sleeps alllllllll night. :)

So far...

Well, today has been MUCH better than yesterday. Lily's gone down for her naps well and she hasn't cried over nothing (that I could figure out). The only time she thought about crying was when I took her away from daddy's computer cables. She quite liked wrestling with them. :)

Maybe Lily was having a bad day yesterday. We all have bad days, right? I took some pictures of her today trying to crawl. She's SOOOOOO close. She can scoot up her knees under her body and can lunge forward. She lifts up her arms, one at a time, of course, but she can't quite figure out how to move forward.

She's been happily playing today. Here are some pictures of her stuffing her mouth with her red monkey. Silly Lily! I'm happy too today because I just finished a big batch of sweet potatoes. I think one of the reasons she was cranky yesterday was because she might have been hungry. So I've been trying to give her more snacks during the day. Thankfully, B.G. likes cheerios. He eats up all the ones that end up on the floor. Thank you B.G.!

Sigh

Things have been a little stressful lately. For some reason, Lily doesn't like falling asleep anymore. She fights it and cries and cries. She cries so hard I worry about her breathing more than her crying. She did this last night (Sunday) and again today. I really don't know why. Could it be because we went away this weekend and she's afraid to fall asleep in case she ends up somewhere else? Is it because she's trying so hard to crawl? Even when she's falling asleep her legs keep kicking and butt keeps lifting. I really don't know.

Here she is on Saturday looking all cute. I guess she really is a good-looking kid. :) You can tell I'm packing for Lily as well, with all the pink in my case. :) Yes, my bed is messy but I have everything I need within reach. :P

This last picture is of Miss Lily sleeping 5 minutes ago. She kind of collapsed on her Pooh bear.

Zoo

Well we might be going to the zoo today. We're going to grandma & grandpa's house. Mommy and Lily already went to the salon for mommy's pedicure. Gosh it feels good to get that old skin filed off! Unfortunately, I think Lily has inherited my feet so I'm going to have to show her how to take care of them. I can tell because sometimes her feet sweat, a lot. Sorry Lily. :) This is a really old picture. I like looking at them. You can see the the seeds of who she'll become in there. Plus, I like her fuzzy socks. :)

sleepy2

It's not fair. When Lily sleeps through the night, I have insomnia. When I am able to sleep, Lily wakes me up all night! Okay, she only woke me up a couple of times last night but I need a good night's sleep!!!!

Miss Lily decided to stretch out in her crib today. The wrong way, of course. She thoroughly trashes her crib these days. She kicks her musical things, messes up the sheet, bunches up the bumper. I'm the kind of person that if my bed is messed up, I have to get up in the middle of the night and straighten it up. I'm trying very hard not to let my OCD interfere with her sleeping so I kind of grit my teeth and walk by. :)

sleepy

Lily woke me several times last night. I think it was related to a feeding schedule mix up. I feel very poorly today. Lily is, of course, full of energy and ready to play. Thankfully I have the cats to pick up the slack.

Let me see. Lily hasn't crawled yet but she's getting close. She can inch her way across the floor to a toy. She's wicked fast at rolling over so I have to keep a close eye on her. Here she is at play in the study. She can sit up for long periods of time now. :)

Well my poor little brain isn't working so well. This picture is of Lily playing with a plug this morning with BG's assistance. Daddy needs to quit leaving stuff on the floor....

Baby Yodelling

I think Lily let me sleep last night but the night before she woke me up at 3:00am with baby yodelling. Pedro heard her doing it last night so I know I wasn't imagining it. She does it in her sleep. Now, I have been caught singing in my sleep a few times (it sounds like violent humming) so I can't really cast a stone at Miss Lily. I usually put a pillow over my head and try to get back to sleep.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that Lily is finally eating the baby food that I make. She loves my strawberry and banana mixture and I've come across an apple that makes good enough apple sauce. If I do have child #2, I'm giving them my baby food straight away so I don't have to compete with Beech Nut. HMPF!

Mother's Day rib

I hope everyone's having a lovely Mother's Day. Here's to Esther taking off for India. woot! As you can probably tell, I made ribs for lunch. Unfortunately, that coincided with Lily's lunch. Daddy offered to feed her, which was very nice of him as he was hungry too. Well Lily kept watching me eat, staring at the rib in my hand.

She wasn't too happy eating her food. Neither her jar, nor her bottle stopped her crying. So finally, I just gave her one of my finished ribs. You can see the results. There is a funny video but of course, I can't put it up here.

I let her chew on it for a while. Sometimes I could hear her two little teeth clunking on the bone. :) She's super proud of herself. It's harder than ever to get her to drink her formula. I'm sure some of you are thinking, well then let her have something else. She needs formula until she's a year old, she needs all the nutrients in it. Plus I can't let her get dehydrated. So I will struggle on. I wonder if I could dip a rib bone in her bottle and let her suck the formula off????

thai

Sorry, I've been tired again and I haven't felt very much like writing about Lily. This is just a quick note as I hope she falls asleep soon. :) We went out for lunch at a Thai restaurant today. YUMMY! Miss Lily behaved herself. People can't help themselves when we're out in public, they have to come up and say what a beautiful baby she is. :)

I think there was something else I wanted to mention, but I'm too tired to remember. Anyway, I hope all the mothers out there have a wonderful Mother's Day tomorrow. :) It's my first!

sittin up

I took some funny pictures of Miss Lily in her crib. She is so good at sitting now. She bends at the waist and reaches forward to grab things, then sits up straight. You can tell she's SO proud of herself. Pedro has banned me putting up videos of Lily so I tried to capture what she was doing frame by frame, but I failed miserably.

There's a picture of her sitting up and one of her flopped down. She was having a great time grabbing her blanket and pulling it up over herself. I tried to get a picture of her pulling up the blanket but I only managed to get a picture of her falling backwards. Which is quite good too. :)

She looks pretty unconcerned about falling....

UPDATE: Well, it looks like we just had a little bit of backwards crawling... Any day now folks, Lily will be off and running. Off and crawling, I mean. :)

Empty

Sorry I haven't been writing as much, I've been very run down. Last night we watched X-Men 3 until 12:15am. That was my mistake but it was fun hanging out with my husband, whom I don't see very often. :) I'm so tired today that I'm stumbling around like I'm drunk. It's one of those days where Lily and I spend a lot of time on the bed. I sing to her or read her stories. I'd hate to lose my balance while walking around holding her.

These pictures are from today. She is getting so close to crawling. She keeps getting herself in the crawling position and rocking back and forth. I'm looking forward to it although I know I'll be running around making sure she doesn't get into dangerous things. We already have a babygate. :) Well I'm getting tired of fixing all my typos. Here's to a long sleep tonight. :)

Salamander Bagel

I gave Lily some frozen bagel slices this morning. She loves them! I've been having trouble getting her to drink her formula today. She seems to want to make a switch to solid food. Which seemed especially obvious after she had a temper tantrum on my lap when I wouldn't give her any of my yogurt. Sigh.

And what kind of lizard is this??? It's living on my front porch under some firewood. It's about 6 or 7 inches long. I'm hoping it's responsible for the fall in ant populations in the front. I'm kind of having a rough day. Between Lily and the cats I'm in need of a vacation. Now Lily is scratching the door frame. Sigh.

UPDATE: I've discovered that the lizard is a 5 lined skink. The males don't have a blue tail and get a copper head during the mating season. There is a 5 lined skink with a blue tail in the other side of the garden. I'm going to have baby skinks! (well not me personally)

The Crawl, part 1

Miss Lily is getting so close to crawling. She gets into position and then rocks back and forth. She hasn't quite coordinated reaching out. But she'll get there. I took this picture this morning but the dern camera wouldn't focus.

And Pedro's going to kill me but I did upload the video of Lily blowing raspberries to youtube. I guess if I invite family/friends to subscribe to youtube I can set the videos to private and then only we, WE, can see them on there. But for now, because it's so darn funny, I just posted the one video of Lily as public. Most of the time she's facing away from the camera so I don't think Gerber is going steal a frame and use it for their advertising.

Alright, this is taking forever. (and maybe I forgot the video was uploading and closed the browser - whatever) So I'm going to feed Miss Lily and then update when the video is ready.

FINALLY: It took 20 minutes to load. Blah but here's the video. Sorry I talk so much in it, I couldn't help but laugh at her. :)

ugh

Miss Lily is trying SO hard to crawl. She's doing really well at getting into a crouch position. It used to be that if her front end went up, her back end went down. And vice versa. Here she is this morning. We had to put socks on her because it's been SO cold!

I'm watching a video of Lily blowing raspberries and it is cracking me up so badly. I think I'm going to have to break the no video on youtube law so that you guys can see. I mean what's the point of having a funny gorgeous baby if you can't show her off??? Besides her back is to the camera most of the time.

I love this last picture. It's kind of like, what do you mean this is daddy's shoe? As you can tell she is becoming so much fun.

On a culinary note, I made my own baked beans today. :) I was looking at the prices of beans in the store and I thought, I have to be able to make my own. Now I just have to keep Pedro from eating it all. :P

UPDATE: I've been eating my beans with Lily on my lap. Every time I bring the spoon up to my mouth, she opens up her mouth as the spoon passes her by. I put some sauce on her tongue and she liked it. So I put a bean in there. Liked it, not so much. A very flat bean came back out. :) And here's a picture of what she looks like, when she crouches. She used to only be able to do it in her crib but she can do it on any surface now. :) Go Lily!
