Pizza Stealer!

Pedro stole my pizza this morning. He just said that he could have eaten the whole thing. hmpf! You know, you ask someone if they want any pizza, and they say no, so you order enough for yourself. GRRRRRR.

Anyway, onto the Lily stuff. She is really good at pulling up on things now, which means that I'm going to have to be really careful about keeping things away from the edges of tables, etc. She's already knocked over one cup of tea. Thankfully, it wasn't hot and it didn't land on her.

Also, last night Lily had her first bath out of the baby bath thing. Pedro said that at first she was freaked out but when I went in there she was crawling around and kicking and playing. :) I can't post pictures of that because nekkid baby photos on the internet are just not a good idea. Trust me that she did look very cute and was having a great time. :) At the rate she's progressing, she'll be able to run her own bath in a month or two. :)

Tired

Yes, I'm tired but it was actually Lily that fell asleep while sitting. Okay, she was sitting cross legged in her crib. I left for a minute and when I came back she had bent forward to rest her head on her feet and fell asleep. :) I didn't take a picture because I was on my way to nap too! Here is another picture of Lily standing yesterday. She's getting to the point where she can shuffle her feet a little while standing. She's going to be cruising soon. I'm going to have to get her a fake phone because she loves to play with the real one. Sometimes I hear a little beep and she's managed to turn the phone on. To give her credit she always looks shocked and lets me turn it off. :) I'll try to have better pictures of her tomorrow. I keep forgetting to put fresh batteries in my camera!

hmpf!

I put up an adorable picture of a newborn Lily and no one comments! What is wrong with you people?! What do you all have jobs or something??? No new pictures, just a scolding.

Lily is pulling herself up more and more. She took a couple of days off after the first time but she's right back in it again. I think mostly because she wants to get to the good stuff on the couch, like mommy's cell phone and the tv remote. Sometimes she stands and wiggles and bends her legs like she knows there's something else she's supposed to do. I think she might be walking before I'm ready! Actually, that's a lie. She is getting to be so heavy, I am more than happy for her to move around under her own power. Just so long as she moves in the direction I need her to. Alright, I can't help it, I'll post another picture. It's an older pic - maybe from April? - but it's still one of my favorites.

HOT!

It's supposed to be up in the 90s today. Boo! Lily and I will hide out inside again. :) This morning I was looking at "old" pictures of Lily. Thankfully, grandma Sarah took some great photos of Lily just after her birth. I was in no shape to do so. I can't remember, I think I had 5 hours of sleep over 3 days? Or something close to that. No one gets a lot of sleep in a hospital. But look at her all little and wrinkled and fat. And look at her now!

It's just always so amazing to me to see the changes she's gone through in 8 months. And I'm not trying to be mean, but she seems like such a big baby. It's getting harder and harder to lift her! I feel for the moms who have babies that weigh over 15 pounds. Granted those are the babies whose moms have gestational diabetes but still! Anyway, here's Miss Lily clapping. I tried to take a picture when her hands were together but digital cameras are a bit slow.

Sometimes when I sit on the floor with Lily she'll come up behind me and either put her hands on my back to pull herself up, or lean up against me. It's VERY sweet. :) She is a sweet child, albeit one with a large stubborn streak. I wonder who she gets that from. hehehehehe!

Park

Grandma, grandpa, auntie Nicole and uncle Todd, Lily, daddy and I went to Walnut Creek park yesterday. It was kind of spur of the moment for me as I was going to stay at home and nurse my back. But then I thought maybe getting out and walking would help. If we go again I'll be a little more prepared. :) We'll make sure we bring our bathing suits.

Okay, don't rub your eyes and don't adjust your monitor - yes, it's a picture of Pedro smiling. Smiling! It helped that he was tickling Lily at the time. You can't help but smile when you hear her laugh. I'm sure it's that way with most babies. :)

Let's see... This is the first morning in over a week that I woke up without any back pain. It's still twinging a bit but I had a good night's sleep except for Lily waking me up. :) I'm not sure I should mention this but daddy gave Lily to her grandpa to hold yesterday while she was asleep. I thought it was really thoughtful but Pedro said he did it because he wanted to make sure he got to the buffet tables unencumbered. But then he added that he was also glad that grandpa got to hold her. hmpf

** UPDATE ** Daddy called from work to let me know that he was joking about why he gave a sleeping Lily to her grandpa to hold. I have been severely chastised. Although anyone who has met Pedro knows how serious he is about buffets....

Isn't She Lovely....

Okay, there are a couple of stains on the dress but that's because Lily pitched a fit when I changed her. She's been pretty cranky today. I wonder if she's like her daddy and the curry is affecting the more delicate parts of her anatomy? Anyway, what a great picture, right? I think she's looks so pretty. Oh, and no she doesn't have one huge hand, that one's mine.

I guess that's all the new news. That and the viking cheese is really good. :)

viking cheese

I couldn't think of a really good title. Obviously. But I do have viking cheese in my fridge. I think it's Icelandic. Anyhoo, today was errand day. I dressed Lily up in one of her new outfits. And she got to wear her daisy sandals. Lucky her. :) I wanted this picture to be all about Lily so I'm, ummm, hiding behind her.

I did get her another dress today, to replace the sundress she's already outgrown. It's beautiful. Dark green, sort of and it ties behind her neck. I made sure to get a big size. hmpf I also got her a reversible sunhat to replace the pink one that's too tight. This is just going to be a common theme isn't it???

This picture is from last night. Look at those dark eyes. Her personality is coming through a little more. I've been trying to get her to feed herself a little more and gave her the rest of her bottle to hold. She got it in her mouth but in a way that no formula was going to reach her lips. So I tried to turn it and she fussed at me! She didn't let go of the bottle either. She is definitely the child for Pedro and I. As stubborn as Pedro and I are, I think we made a triple strength stubborn child. :)

Oh and grandma Sarah, you missed a good lunch! We went Milan for the curry buffet. For dessert they had a mango pudding with chunks of mango in it! Plus it had crushed cardamom. So it was sweet but a little spicy. It was so good!!!!! Lily had a little bit. I think she ate all the food we gave her. :)

Moving on UP!

Lily and I had fun at our solstice lunch. Alright, I had fun. Lily looked around askance. There are a lot of people on the downtown mall. Actually, she slept through my 15 minute walk up and down the mall. I had dumplings for lunch. yummmm She woke up when we met up with my friend and did NOT look pleased. She did get to sit in some grass and run it through her toes. I was watching for anything dangerous in the grass. When I lived in Vancouver, it was not uncommon to see needles and used condoms on the curb and I'm sure worse was in the downtown parks. I wanted Lily to wear her pretty sun dress that she's only had a chance to wear once - and then she threw up on it so she never actually made it out the door in it. Well, the dern thing is too tight already! It was pinching her under her arms, you can kind of see it's too tight.

Farewell pretty sun dress,
We hardly wore ye.

Anyhoo, on to the big news.... Yes, it's true, she's standing and she pulled herself up. I knew the little munchkin would follow in my illustrious footsteps. My mom told me I could pull myself up at 8 months and Lily is a MUCH bigger baby than I was, so imagine the strength and coordination it takes for her. :) I couldn't find my camera but my cellphone was right beside me, hence the fuzziness. Pedro, take a pill, it's only a 25 cent charge. Walking will be just around the corner....

solstice

Tomorrow is the summer solstice. I'm planning on celebrating it with a friend by having a picnic. Of course, Lily is coming along too. :) I haven't been updating her blog as often because we have relocated our HQ to the living room. Lots of room to roam and cats to antagonize. She's started to practice pulling up on the sofa (chesterfield to my Canadian homies!) and pulls out DVD cases to teethe on. It's a good fun. :)

Oh and the other reason I haven't been updating things is that my back still hurts. It hurts to sit. :( That's the other great part about the living room... I don't have to pull Lily out from under my desk every 5 minutes and stress my back out more. :) The above picture is of Lily napping yesterday. I love the bent knee and flipped over foot. Yay, Lily!

Lily broke her mommy

I'm sitting here in my computer chair with the heating pad behind my back. Sigh. Repeatedly lifting a 25 pound baby has taken its toll. I think it's a strained or pulled muscle. Take your pick. Anyway, let's see what's new on the Lily front. She can almost pull herself up in her crib. This pick is from this morning.

We also had a visit with grandma yesterday. There's a nice picture of them reading Brown Bear. Lily has also discovered the magic of Dr Seuss. I remember I used to LOVE Dr Seuss. :) Gosh that heating pad feels so good. You know what would be better? If Lily quit unplugging it. I keep thinking I'm getting tolerant of the heat when it turns out the thing is just cooling down. Sigh.

Oh and if I could get a virtual drumroll please... Lily slept through the night and didn't wake me at all. I know this because my back screamed every time I tried to rollover last night so I was awake plenty to know that Lily was peacefully sleeping. :) Here's a pic of her napping yesterday. Silly munchkin.

Let's see, I'm sure there was something else. Oh yeah! Today Miss Lily is 8 months old. yay! Oh and also just got herself totally wrapped up in the heating pad cord. Sigh.

Wow

I'm always amazed at what Lily does. I guess most parents are when raising their kids. :) Anyhoo, I just took some pictures of Miss Lily sitting cross-legged. I mean, she's not 8 months old yet! And you cannot tell me this isn't the cutest picture ever. I've been taking her with me to the kitchen lately. I gave her some mixing bowls to play with today. She enjoyed it but not as much as toying with me....

Now remember she's not quite 8 months old yet. She crawled over to the garbage can and pulled on the top of the plastic garbage bag hanging over the edge. She knows she's not supposed to do this because daddy was after her quite a bit last night. So today, I'd hear a crinkle and when I turned around her hand was an inch away from touching the bag and she was watching to see my reaction. What a little minx! She did this several times in a row, I guess to see what I'd do. I thought the terrible twos wouldn't start for a while!!!

Handstand Grandstand

So what is this? Lily does this fairly often although it's hard to get a picture of her doing it. Usually, her head is touching the floor. Is this practice for standing up? I can tell it's a balance exercise. She's a pretty adept crawler now so I wonder why she does this.

We're having a lazy day today. Last night, I think the neighbor's kid had some friends over and they sounded a little drunk as they were hooting and hollering around 11:30pm. Thankfully, a row of thunderstorms came through and drove them inside. Of course, I was irritated and had trouble falling asleep. I mean I moved to the country to avoid this stuff!

I think I'm going to have to buy 5 acres and build a house right in the middle of the lot. hmpf Lily is teething again. She chews on whatever she can get in her mouth. We bought her some maracas (spelling?) and they're made out of plastic. I can hear her teeth clunking on the toy as she chews on it. I'm sorry for the pain she goes through but I'll be glad when she can share our meals. Although, Pedro's going to help me make lamb curry tonight and I don't always like sharing that... :)

Communication

What a fun day today. I was trying to get Lily ready to go out and pick up daddy from the dealership when we discovered that her cute little white blouse was a little tight. I still tried to button it up and Miss Lily started yelling, "na na na na na!". I've never heard her say "na" before so I think she was trying to say no. Let's face it - she hears no a lot!! It turned out that the collar was scratching her under her chin. :(

These pictures are what it looks like sometimes when I try to get her to go to sleep. I put a blanket on her head and let her roll around the crib to get settled. Hey, whatever works!

Hey I know she's special! Oh and a big shout out to auntie Nicole who hooked up Miss Lily with some new duds! They're extremely cute, thank you!!!

Crazy Baby

Well, Miss Lily and I have almost made it through another day. She'll be getting her bath shortly but I wanted to post some pictures of her from last night. Here she is enjoying some blueberry bagel.

Then there's a funny picture of her hair from last night. Oh dear, her daddy is tickling her right now and her laugh is making me laugh. :) Happy babies are the best!

The last picture is of Miss Lily laughing last night - sorry it's so fuzzy. She is such a ham. Oh and last night Pedro and I watched the Departed. It was violent but a really good movie nonetheless.

Ser-i-ous Bedhead

Guess who's having a bath tonight!!!

Better

I'm feeling much better. My stomach ailment has finally subsided. whew Now if I could only get a full night's sleep. It's been kind of an interesting weekend. The cats started peeing all over the house because they didn't like the litter from the
vet's office. Riley and BG are walking much better. I picked up Daphne and she is an extremely fat old lady cat. The food bowls are going to have to be put away during the day. Sigh.

I'm glad Esther is having fun in India. Don't get any really small baby clothes cuz Miss Lily is getting BIG! When we were shopping on Saturday there was a baby girl in a shopping cart close to ours and we heard her daddy say she was a year old. She was way smaller than Lily! I hope she doesn't hit 30 pounds before she turns 1 year old. The car seat is only rated to 30 pounds rear-facing. argh I'm so glad we didn't get an infant car seat because we would have had to change that out months ago. The joys and challenges of having a big baby! The pig isn't Lily, I was born in the year of the pig and I thought he was pretty cute. :)

Whiney Hiney

I try not to be too much of a whiney hiney, as I realize there are people in the world who have more/worse problems than I do. However, last night I had gastritis again. I think it's due to my increase in coffee drinking. Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining. The first time I had it I went to the emergency room. It can be extremely painful. They gave me dilaudin. WOOT! Anyway, I had to take something strong last night so I could get some sleep. I feel tired but a lot better today. I'm cutting out coffee for a few days to see if I improve.

So, as you can see, Lily has been exploring her environment a little more. She's not old enough to sit on her red car without constant watching. She can sit without support but she'll look back at me, lose her balance and topple over. I'm impressed that she can almost climb on the thing herself! Sigh. Soon she'll be begging for a car and a cellphone.

I can't think of anything else to say! I hope everyone has a good weekend. Oh and I hope Esther is still having a blast in India and that grandma and grandpa have a great time in Cancun. I'll, uh, hold down the fort here at home. Sigh.

Poor Kitties

We had quite the morning, Miss Lily and I. First, to the dealership for a recall on the rear brake lights. I had to get up at 6:30 in the morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am bushwhacked today! (Having never looked up the meaning of bushwhacked, I hope it's nothing bad) Then on to the vets where we picked up a disgruntled Riley and BG. I feel so guilty every time I look at them but I can't put up with the wrecking the house. Sigh. Anyway, here's a distracting look at Miss Lily's chunky legs. :)

Here she is this afternoon with a real estate mailing. She's the only one interested in a $350,000 house. I really like my house. It needs a lot of work but I love it here. :) Of course, Lily is only interested in the mailing because she wants to chew on it. :)

Let's see... Lily had toast for the first time today. I cut it into little pieces. She's been eating off my plate for a few days now. Last night she expected some grilled chicken, the night before I had to give her some macaroni. :) It's good that she's showing some initiative for our food. In fact, today she ate more toast than she did her fruit puree. She fed herself mostly. Oh and then I went to get a damp facecloth to wash her off a bit and when I returned to her crib she had found a pacifier and put that in her mouth, and pulled a blanket over herself. I was like, hmpf, I'm not needed anymore. :) Now if she only did all this in the middle of the night instead of waking me up!!!! Well, I'm sure this means that she's learning and those night time wake ups should stop. (fingers crossed to the point of breaking)
