Bombs Away

I'm so glad that Lily is predictable. She woke me up again from 4 until 6 when I finally gave in and brought her to bed with me. sigh I didn't get all my things done yesterday. I refuse to put Lily in any dangerous situations and me driving while being chronically sleep deprived falls into that definition. I see things out of the corner of my eye all the time. I sometimes stagger around. The only roads around where we live are curvy and tree lined (with deer waiting in ambush). So I prefer to wait until I feel better. I'm certainly not in any rush.

Oh and I also wanted to let people know that if you want to see a picture bigger, just click on it. I used to take pictures in 8 megapixel mode, so some of the older ones are huge. But I've since learned that bigger isn't always better. :) And isn't Pedro a good daddy? You should see Lily's face light up when he walks into the room. :) I'm going to have to start taking more pictures of Lily. I thought oh, I have hundreds of photos but a lot of them are similar and hey, I try to keep this thing interesting. I do love this picture. The communication is ALL with the eyes. :)

ear plugs

Well I had one of those days. I didn't get out of the house. I was too tired. And now I'm waiting for Riley or BG, or both to throw up my ear plugs. My used ear plugs. I'm usually good about putting them away. I'm not sure why my cats like the smell/taste of my earwax. Lily and I had a nap together. I should have left her in her crib because she woke up when I moved her onto the bed. sigh But after moving around every which way for a little while, she quieted back down. Here's a pic of her after I put her in her baby bouncer. I even put on the massage thingie and the sound of ocean waves. And THIS is what I walked back to find... Hark, what did I just see? The UPS man left a parcel for me! Okay that was a little rhymie. I'd better go and see what it is...

Doe a Deer

I just saw 2 deer hightail it through my front yard. I'm always so impressed that some of them know to look for cars before they cross the street. Maybe more of them know to look, but get spooked and just run out. It's my opinion that evolution is at hand. The deer that hold back and learn to check for cars are living and reproducing (if they aren't getting killed by hunters) and the ones that just run out are being thinned out. Nature's way, right? Those aren't them in the photo. :)

I do have some big plans today but I'm not sure how they're going to pan out. Yes, Lily woke me up again. I can't even remember what she was doing. I think she was on her belly. She's so funny - Saturday she hardly took any naps at all and yesterday (Sunday) all she did was sleep. I guess as she grows her sleep requirements change and she and I have to figure that out like everything else. :) I want to take some things to Goodwill and get them out of the house. I'm slowly getting things cleared out. I also want to go to a used bookstore to sell some books but I think that would be easier with Pedro holding the Lily. There's a new consignment store for plus sized clothes (that would be me!) and I want to take some skirts there that I don't think I've ever worn. Hopefully I can make some money! Then I have to get some things from Food Lion so for me, that's a pretty full crazy day. Because in the midst of all that, I still have a crazy baby to take care of. :) Oh gosh, she's almost in the closet again. Now she's in the closet. Well I took a pic. See folks, live updates as it happens! Call me SNN.

Oh dear. Three more deer just went through my yard, at a much more leisurely pace. There's a young one with a long gash in his side. :( I'll try not to bug them so they can eat and fatten up. And on that note, Miss Lily is still in the closet so I'd better go get her. :)

Update: I was rereading the post to check for errors (yes, I'm that pedantic) and I keep seeing deer go by! Gosh another two AND another one! It's deer day! There are some very big trucks that go up the hill that I live on, very fast. I will cry copious tears if a deer gets flattened in front of my house. I'll have to do the Inigo Montoya line from the Princess Bride "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my deer, prepare to die". Of course, I look nothing like Mandy Patinkin, nor do I have a sword but I think I'd be scary nonetheless. :) Oh and I forgot to mention that Lily got a hold of daddy's keyboard last night and got a good swing in on it. Great, now she's trying to kick mine. :) Happy Deer Day everyone.

Green beans

Miss Lily was a trooper this evening. She didn't seem to like green beans too much but she soldiered her way through the whole jar. It just took a while. Fortunately for me, she hasn't realized that when she opens her mouth to cry it gives me a great opportunity to plop some more food in her mouth. This picture might suggest that she's catching on. I try really hard to have a game face when I feed her vegetables. I smell the food I give to her and it almost makes me retch. Imagine soft veggies with no salt and no butter. And that would be okay, but pureed??? UGH. She is eating a lot more solid food now. I anticipate giving her a solid lunch in a few weeks. Right now meal 1 and 5 are solid. Solid! Wasn't that a slang thing in the 70's? You raised up your fist and said "solid!". I don't know. Anyhoo, soon we'll be up to meals 1, 3 & 5. I can't wait for her to feed herself. I realize it will be a big mess, but look at the picture above. Is it really going to be THAT much more of a mess? I can put her in her highchair, give her a handful of cheerios and relax for a little bit instead of struggling with an octopus.

I don't think I put in a picture of the snow we got yesterday morning. So here's one. Hopefully grandma and grandpa are coming up this weekend. We'll celebrate some birthdays. :) But somehow I'm sure it will end up being all about Lily. Has anyone else watched the Shaun of the Sheep video? I walk around all day singing, it's Shaun the Sheep, it's Shaun the Sheep.... I'm surprised Pedro hasn't thrown a shoe at me yet.

Raspberries

I want to thank people for leaving comments (Esther & Nicole). It makes me feel like my efforts are appreciated. :) I did want to take a picture of Lily in some sort of Easter pose, but I've been too busy. She takes a lot more of my time now that she's awake most of the day and trying her darndest to smack things off of my desk or roll into the study closet. But here's a cute Easter picture I found.
I do love me some Cat of the Day. Here's a pic of Lily. It's not a recent one but it's pretty darn cute. It has to be, since her shirt says cutie. I am pleased to announce that Miss Lily loves her some sweet potatoes. You cannot shovel it into her mouth fast enough. So far the only food she hates is peas. I'm going to put up a video I found on youtube. I'm not sure how I came across it. I think I was looking for something on Shawn of the Dead but I spelled Shawn differently. Anyway, I like letting Lily watch this show (there are a lot of episodes!) and the bonus is that Pedro and I like it too. Whoops! I forgot the whole point of this post was to describe Lily's raspberry blowing talent! Sometimes all we hear coming from her crib is pzzzzzt. I'm surprised she can put up with her lips going numb. Hark! I hear a baby waking!

April Snow brings May flowers?

I think it only snowed an inch or so here last night. Pedro asked me if I thought it would snow and I said, naah not here. Oops. I guess it's a good thing I'm not a weatherperson. Here's a pick of Lily traveling across the study. I had to take her to sleep with me this morning. She woke me up at 5 and couldn't fall back asleep. It's fun trying to sleep with sharp little heels kicking me in the arm. But I rubbed her back and stroked her forehead and she slowly fell to sleep. whew

It looks like Lily is thinking "na na, I can't hear you!". She was probably trying to make a deposit in her diaper. We rented Jackass 2 from Netflix. I think Pedro is in LOVE. I think he's watching it for the third time already. At Pedro's behest, we're going to be watching all of the Looney Tunes Volumes. I think it's one through four. I enjoy cartoons but, you know, here and there. Well, Pedro did watch all of Deadwood with me. But that's actually good. Although I was swearing like a sailor for a week afterwards. I'm not really sure why the font size changed. I think it's because I keep typing sigh in brackets and they never show up but they wreak havoc with the font! Dern HTML.

Update: Okay now all the font should be the same. I'm such a whiz kid.

Cheeseburger in Paradise

I met my friend Stacy for lunch at, you guessed it, Cheeseburger in Paradise. It was okay. The waitress was engrossed with Lily and had to ask me twice what I wanted to drink. Lily was very well-behaved. When she got tired, she let out a little cry and I turned her to me and she put her little head on my chest and fell asleep. I'm not sure I could have fallen asleep in the middle of a restaurant with music blaring and people talking. :) This picture is of one of the sleepy faces I mentioned yesterday. They rawk! Of course, Lily really appreciates the flash going off in her face as she gently tries to wake up.

This picture is from today. She took a keen interest in her Goodnight Moon book. At first I thought, awww she recognizes it. Then she tried to eat it. I had some Dairy Queen on the way home and it made me feel a little sick. I've been trying really hard to cook healthy foods for Pedro and I and it has made a difference. My shorts no longer cut me in half. But I wonder if it makes me intolerant of icky food? Or maybe Dairy Queen needs to clean it's soft serve ice cream machine?? I don't know. I do know that Lily needs to fall asleep and give mommy a break. She only woke me up twice last night and I slept so soundly after the second time that I didn't even hear Pedro have a shower or leave for work. I was doing some serious sleeping. I actually woke up before Lily did - for a change. The bottom picture is just before I interceded and got her new chew toy away from her. :)

pwned

Oops - I got called out on my statement that people aren't checking up on Lily's blog. Well from 2 people out of the dozen or so I've told.... Someone is quietly snoozing. Daddy's not quite home so I am enjoying the peace and quiet. Lily made up a little game with me today. She'd sing to herself while on my lap and then slowly turn her head to look at me and see if I was watching her. I'd give her a quick kiss and she'd giggle and then start again. It's funny that raising a child can be so much work but then, in an instant, the most fun you've ever had. Well, not the MOST fun, but it was the highlight of the day. Actually, that's not true either. Our 2 hour nap was the highlight. I heard a little sleeping baby stirring so I'd better go and get her. That wake up face is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!

baaaad

I keep on letting family members and friends know about Lily's blog so that they can see up to date pictures and read little stories on what we're doing. BUT it seems that people can't be bothered to check in on their granddaughter/grandniece/ cousin/daughter, etc. But that's okay because I like doing this for myself and for Lily. It's a little bit of a creative outlet for me. Except for today. Yes, Lily woke me up again last night. It seems like she's sleeping through the night more often now. I am my own worst enemy as well when it comes to sleep. I don't know if it's having a child that makes one stress about the future and how to take care of their baby. It just used to be me, and I know Pedro can take care of himself. But now everything includes a baby and it makes me panic that I won't be able to provide for her. I think sometimes that I could have a million dollars in the bank and I'd still be stressed out. I think that would be an interesting thing to find out - does anyone have a million dollars to spot me?

In good news - those British soldiers captured by Iran were released. In even bigger news, Netflix finally got the dvds I mailed back! It took forever. I don't know if it was the post office (who is usually really good) or if Netflix was behind in receiving. HMPF This is what Lily looks like after she's been fed and she turns sideways and leans backwards to stare up at her mommy. She is a funny little thing. I'm excited to see what she'll be like when she's older. What kind of conversations will we have, what will her personality turn out to be like... ? The baby stage definitely goes quickly. Well, the little one is asleep (hopefully not with her butt in the air this time) so I shall sally forth and tackle some chores.

baby dreams

I have a picture of Pooh bear above Lily's crib that says "Baby dreams must be the sweetest". I think that's what it says. Anyway, here's a picture of her sleeping 5 minutes ago. She's still asleep, I just moved her to her side so she'd be more comfortable. Yes, her butt is in the air again. But I'd like to direct your attention to the big toe of her left foot. Bent backwards about 90 degrees. So, what kind of baby dreams would a baby have in this position?? Maybe she's dreaming of crawling... She's getting so close. It really will be any day now. As you can see she gets her knees up under her and her upper body is very strong. She just needs to coordinate the two. I am intimidated by the amount of work it could take running after a baby all day BUT her doctor said that when they start crawling, they tire themselves out by about 7 at night and crash until 7 the next morning. Sounds fine to me. :)

Here's a picture of Riley (gray and black) and BG (white belly) wrassling. I didn't get a definitive shot of teeth sinking into one another but you get the idea. BG is an evil monkey of a cat (yes it's possible) and Riley is kind of a lovable doofus. Riley is great with Lily. He's learning to stay out of her reach but if she does get a hand hold of his fur he waits patiently for her to let go and then runs away. If I did that to him I would have scratch marks or bite marks on my arm. I'm hoping they'll be good friends as she grows up. Oh and my chicken tikka masala turned out well last night, it's just too bad my husband has become wimpier than I when it comes to slightly spicy foods. He drank 4 glasses of milk! And hey, milk is becoming expensive so he needs to cut that out. Men.

white chicks and gang signs

Sorry I took the title from Lily's new favorite video. Usually she goes a little gangbusters over the farting belgian pig or the crazy frog videos. But she really liked this one.

Wait was that the East coast sign Lily just threw down???

woo!

Miss Lily just managed to move forward a little bit on her belly. Her arms are bent at the elbow and she placed one forearm ahead of the other and moved a wee bit across the floor. Now, I also smell something rather unpleasant. So I'm tempted to think that the effort pushing out a poop played a small (but smelly) part in Miss Lily's crawling attempts. Wow she almost got her knees under her. I swear, any day now she will be zooming across the floor on her hands and knees. But I am about to succumb to odor in here... when can babies change their own diapers?

Sleep!

Miss Lily has slept through the last 2 nights. I have not, but even so not having to get up several times to tend to my baby's needs has helped me feel more refreshed. It's 8:30 in the morning and I'm up and Lily is snoozing! I need to think positive thoughts today because I'm going to make Chicken Tikka Masala tonight and I will need all of my wits about me! I'm kind of irritated because I saw this video with Michele Malkin spouting off on something Rosie O'Donnell said. MM said something to the effect of how dare Rosie sympathize with Iranians. Yeah, how dare any of us see people in the middle east as ummm people. I don't know exactly what Rosie said or what MM was alluding to but her basic statement was sickening. sigh I guess I'd better look at some cute baby pics to cheer myself up.

Lily has been changing a lot lately. I have to keep her away from anything she can grab, be it a glass or mommy's hair. I thought she was going to snatch me bald yesterday! These cute little hands slowly made their way to my face and reached up to a lock of hair. I was halfway through thinking "Oh how cute" when she yanked as hard as she could on it! Now she gouges eyes and pinches noses. I realize that I'm going to have to be creative and think up lots of ways to keep her constructively busy and me safe. :)

call me tuna breath!

Okay, don't really call me that. Our across the street neighbor had a lovely treat for us today. Fresh tuna! He was out deepfishing yesterday and I guess they had a good haul. So it was some super fresh tuna. I pan seared it with cracked pepper, balsamic vinegar, salt and garlic powder. I knows it's supposed to be pink in the middle but I wasn't feeling good so I cooked the heck out of it. It was still yummy. I don't know if I've ever had fish that fresh except for the time I got to cook my own trout at camp. And quite frankly, skanky lake trout cannot hold a candle to yummy fresh yellowfin tuna. yummmmm! Mike, the aforementioned neighbor, had the exact same job that Pedro had in the Marines. Small world, no? He gave us a couple of pounds of tuna and I sectioned it away into 3 portions so we can have a couple more meals out of it. Also, just in case I screwed up cooking it, I'd have **** newsflash **** I just put my knuckle in Lily's mouth to see if she was hungry (she's been complaining for a while) and came across a tooth! That's daddy's hand in the picture. yay Lily!

Oh and here is another one of my favorite videos from youtube.

chocolate cookies

I forgot I had a double chocolate chip cookie in my purse until I had to get something else out of it. mmmmmmm! I bought it yesterday at Whole Foods. Don't they have the best stuff in the world??? Slight exaggeration or not, Miss Lily had visitors this weekend - Auntie Nicole and Grandma! I think she's a little peeved that her audience is gone because she's been a little cranky with me today. I obviously don't pay her the attention she thinks she is now due. :) I love this picture of Lily and Riley. It really works with the next one I took of them together.

Yes, my bed is always that messy. It's where I change Lily and feed her, and play with her and sometimes let her sleep. So it has to hold all the baby accoutrement to make all of the above possible. In other news, I'm going to put a couple of books on e-bay. I'm not sure how a newbie like myself will make out but I'll give it a try. Oh dear, Miss Lily is trying awfully hard to get her knees under her to crawl.... any day now.
